If there is one icon that represents Cantilan , that would be the Island of Huyamao due to its distinct image that resembles the popular cartoon character of Homer Simpson from afar.
Aside from the lush vegetation , the island is littered with white sand beaches that are comparable to the sugar fine white sand of Boracay. The whole island is reported to be inhabited by isolated wild monkeys and some raptors or big birds dwelling in the secluded place.
Huyamao island is just across the pier located in Brgy. Consuelo in Cantilan , Surigao del Sur. We opted to visit the beaches of Huyamao after our short trip in Blue Lagoon , just 10-minute boat ride from Brgy. Libtong. We were supposed to go to Casarica islet , but due to the flock of people on the beach we decided to settle in a more subtle place just 20 meter across Casarica .
Seeing the island for the first time ,the beach of Huyamao simply awed me . It was already late in the afternoon and we did not waste a single second not to taste the water of this unknown paradise set just fronting the mainland Cantilan.
My usual five minutes swimming in the marine water lasted for another thirty, as the warm tropical and crystal clear water was so irresistible to leave.
How I wished to stay longer but the sun was setting fast and we need to get back to the mainland Cantilan before dark .
There are no entrance fee in the island and you can bring your food and drinks to have family picnic and bask under the sun in this beautiful beach paradise in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, Mindanao.
To get there , just check my previous post on Blue Lagoon.
