Tandag City: Ang Cortesanon

For years now, I’d been to Tandag City as an extension of my home. This city is the nearest city to my place and about 30 kilometers from San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. This is not the usual city that people are used to as it has no grand and enormous malls, food chains, classy restaurant so forth and so forth.

The life in this new city is very simple shown by its main type of transportation-tricycle, and for Php 8.00 you can round the city in just few minutes.

There are only few establishments that really stood out in this place. There is the T & T for your groceries and hardware materials, Shacene Hotel and Restaurant for your accommodation, Jakah’s, Gold Bar and my favorite Cortesanon Grill and Restaurant for your guts satisfaction.

The Cortesanon was started by Dodong Abala who migrated to Tandag City from the town of Cortes in 1990 . He put up his turo turo business along the shore of Barangay  Dagucdoc which gives its patrons a good view of the beautiful landscape of the mouth of Tandag River.

During peak hours (12 noon) this place is a favorite hangout among the government officials, teachers, policemen, businessmen and even politicians. They savor on the cheap yet delicious food displayed on the stand.

In my years of stay here, I never get tired of eating in this simple probincia type of restaurant. I just feel at home whenever I come and have my lunch or dinner in this place. I even take our visitors and my boss to this place and they can only say good things about the food.

Cortesanon offers different type of dishes ranging from pork, vegetables and my favorite sea foods. I rarely see poultry dishes. My favorite dishes from this restaurant are the sautéed shrimps, ginataang langka, ensaladang talong, bulalo, sugba fish and their ever famous kinilaw na malasugi.

They may look too similar with other foods in other places but there is some kind of different touch by a true cortesanon that made their food unique to the taste of their regular patrons. The prices range from Php30-50 pesos only.

Getting there

Cortesanon is a household name in Tandag City and almost everybody knows the place. Just take a tricycle and tell the driver to take you to Dagucdoc Cortesanon. The place is somehow conspicuous from where it is located. The resto sits beside the city’s gymnasium.
