The beach front of Lorna's End of the World ( low tide) |
Two
months ago I was searching for a cheap accommodation for my future trip to Siquijor
and I stumbled upon with a fellow blogger’s entry Natalie of My Wandering Soles
about this cheap room/accommodation for only Php 400.00 in San Juan, Siquijor Island. I dialed the
number and made a reservation for at least 2 pax directly with the owner itself
Ate Lorna. I did not make a follow up as I was reluctant with the sweet and
cheerful voice of Ate Lorna and relied on with the feedback I received from travelers
who’d been to Siquijor.

Ate Lorna and Me |
A
day before my trip I made a call to secure the room I reserved. I was shocked
when she told me that her place was caught on fire a month ago. I felt sad for
her and promised that I shall visit upon my
arrival in the island.
Meeting her for the first time, she welcomed
me as if we have known each other for years. She told me that the fire started at
the second floor of the house where her nieces and nephew were sleeping. They weren’t
able to save a thing except for themselves and the clothes they were wearing.
They
were so thankful that nobody got hurt. They even had guests during that time
that was in the not so fortunate time got all their money and some properties burned
into ashes. It was a sad day for Ate Lorna that her source of livelihood was gone
just like that.

With
teary eyes she told me that the association of resort owners in the island had
at least gave some financial assistance for her family to start all over again.
Even some former foreigner guests who have learned the incident reached out to
help their family.
This only shows that taking a short refuge in their 4 room
resort was undeniably convenient for their guests. They are
friendly and very much reliable to help you in case you needed something. This
could be the reason why their guests both foreigners and locals, keep on coming back to
the ill-fated little haven.
Before
I left I gave ate Lorna a word of encouragement telling her that it was just a challenge
in their lives and God will provide and guide them through. Her husband happily
told me that they will try to finish the house/resort within 6 months since a
lot of callers are hoping to stay in their humble abode. I told them that when
I come back to Siquijor, their place will always be my first choice as there
will be no end at Lorna’s End of the World.
For future reservation

Sad knowing about this. I stayed at ate lorna also. Hope they could get back again to what was a homey environment that lornas end of the world provided to budget travelers. :(
ReplyDeleteit was a sad day for them . It took an hour before the fire truck arrived when everything was already turned into ashes... the strong wind during that night aggravated the fire ...i feel sorry to the innocent guest too whose money of atleast Php60 000 underneath the bed gone just like that....
ReplyDeletethat was really sad.. wish I could go there too since most of my relatives are from Siquijor.. hmm.. maybe this summer! :D
ReplyDeleteCheers~!
