I have only known fishing game in other countries and never heard such event being held in the Philippines. With the abundant marine resources and being one of the centers of biodiversity, it is no doubt that giant fishes are found in the Philippines.
The Municipality of Pilar in Siargao Island has been the host of the International Fishing Game in the Philippines for the 5th Year and being participated by fishing enthusiasts representing different nationalities from USA, Japan to Australia.
My friends and I were so fortunate that during our visit to Siargao in the last week of April 2012 as we were able to see the fruit of labor of the anglers displayed at the stage along Pilar Boulevard for the final weighing and measurement.
The longest fish is much taller than my height and weigh more than 45 Kg. Some of these fishes are Tanigue, Dorado, and giant Talakitok to name just a few.
It was an exhilarating experience to see it in person and the crowds were cheering for every fish outweighing the others. So unfortunate in our part that we have to leave earlier and missed the announcement of winners on different categories.Truly this event adds up to things you don’t want to miss in Siargao every year.
